13 suspects arrested in Uganda over killing of a refugee woman

Police in Terego district of west Nile Uganda have arrested 13 suspects over the alleged killing of a 30-year old south Sudanese women.

The deceased is suspected to have been killed by the mob after it was alleged that she poisoned and murdered another woman. The incident occurred at Omugo refugees camp in Terego district where the mob murdered the woman.

On Monday, January 4th, 2021 at around noon, police officers at Omugo Refugees Camp police post received a report that a female Ugandan national, by the name Ombokuru Carolina, who is believed to be in her 50s and is from Lugbara tribe residing at Ocia village, Ndapai parish in Omugo sub county was poisoned and killed by a South Sudanese refugees called Jogo Grace.

 According to the West Nile police spoke person, Josephine Angucia, the Ugandan nationals organized themselves and raided the home of Jogo Grace at around 6:30 pm and destroyed her house, damaging household items and looting other valuables.

 The mob who managed to get hold of Jogo Grace and thoroughly beat her up before she was rescued by police that rushed to Omugo camp health centre where she was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.

 Angucia said that the police from Terego District supported by UPDF soldiers commanded by DCIO Terego responded to the emergency call and managed to arrest 13 suspects who were armed with bows, arrows and panga.

 Anguica further indicated that the situation has been normalized since the district police commander at Terego managed to deploy adequately security at the camp in anticipation of any violence that may arise later. She added that the 13 suspects are currently being detained at Omugo police station in Terego district.
