On Wednesday the 18th of November 2020 at around noon, Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro through a communique attended by Diocesan Curia Staff in Yambio made an announcement to the Christians that Fr. Mathew Remijio Adam Gbitiku had been appointed as the new bishop of Wau Catholic Diocese. On hearing the pronouncement of Barani Hiiboro there was an atmosphere of joy and celebration among the Christians and staffs in attendance.

 Bishop Hiiboro said “It is a celebration of Catholic Church in South Sudan and Sudan for the appointment of the new bishop because the Christians of Wau Diocese which has been without a bishop for more than three years after the passing of Bishop Rudelfo Deng” and he went ahead to say that the presence of the church among the people represents the connection of God to His people through the bishops who are the representatives of the apostles. Bishop Eduardo added that the Diocese of Tombura-Yambio is historically connected to Wau in many ways, the Catholic faith came through Wau Diocese to  Tomura-Yambio and before Tombura-Yambio became a diocese it used to be under Wau Diocese until 1949 when it was detached from Wau Diocese and became a diocese on its own.

Fr. Mathew Remijio Adam was born to Mr .Remijio Adam Agbitiku who’s deceased and to Mrs.Asunta Juyee Longo on 5th May 1972 in Mboro Village, Wau Diocese. He was baptized on 20th June 1972 and went ahead to receive the sacrament of Holy Communion in 1978 in Mboro. Fr.Remejio was confirmed in 1984 at Bussere, Wau. He was ordained as a deacon in Lima, Peru on Novermber 18th, 2003 and a priest on October 3rd, 2004 in Wau, by the late Bishop Rudelfo Deng of Wau Diocese, for the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus.

 His priestly Responsibilities:

2004-2008 Assistance Parish Priest and Parish Priest of Masalma Parish, in Umdurman, Khartoum Sudan.Spiritual Director of the Legion of Marry of the Achdiocese of Khartoum.

2008-2010: further studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he obtained a master’s Degree in spiritual theology.

2010-2012: Vocations Director of the Archdiocese of Khartoum

2012-213: spiritual Director of ST. Pual’s Major seminary, Khartoum.

2013-2017: Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Khartoum.

2017__: Vice Rector and Bursar of the International theology of the Comboni Missionaries in Nairobi, Kenya.
