MEANING OF RURU GENE

Context

The word RURU GENE was adopted for the first Newspaper in Mupoi vicariate in 1958 and became the third Newspapers in Southern Region of the Republic of the Sudan. It was initiated by the Founding Father of Catholic Faith in the then Azande Kingdom.

 The RuruGene was such a useful source of information for the people of Southern Region of Sudan until 1965, that its production was halted by the first civil war. It was later revived after the war in 1986 and continued to be published until 1990 when it stopped due to the second civil war in Southern Sudan.

 Built on this foundation, the Catholic Diocese of Tombura Yambio has taken the initiative to revive the publication of RuruGene News but as an online newsletter taking into consideration the changing times of our generation when everything is moving digital. As such the new format Rurugane Online News which will be published weekly is the first of its kind for the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio.

 Why the name RURUGENE?

Pronunciation - Etymology:

RURUGENE are two words chosen from Pazande Language, a language widely spoken in Western Equatoria of South Sudan, Northern part of the Democratic Republic Congo and Eastern part of Central African Republic. The word Ruru is pronounced as Rule in English and Gene is as in General!

 Literal Meaning

RURUGENE are two words. RURU basically means Straight, Right, Correct, Unmistakable, Pointblank, True etc. while GENE on the other hand means Road, Path, Way, Guide, Pointer, Truth, Directive.

 Therefore, the literal meaning of the two words RURU GENE can simply mean, Straight Road, Right Path, True means, Correct Way, Unmistakable Guide, True Pointer, Directive Pointblank.

Broad Concept.

 From simple literal meaning, RURUGENE as a Title has broader meaning which includes all that are contained in literal and what goes beyond these simple meanings. RURUGENE in this regards refers to an information leading to the right direction, an information with unmistakable truth. The path we should tread on, a point easy to understand, a trustworthy information. Telling the way it appears and the way it is. Simple facts. Presenting facts with no ambiguity. Un-contradicted point.

 Objective of RURUGENE Online New

The weekly online news which will be published every Wednesday therefore aims to share news and information from the diocese in particular and South Sudan as a whole with the rest of the world. RURUGENE objectives therefore include:

 To share information with the people of Western Equatoria of South Sudan on development by publishing information that promotes development initiatives and human growth and welfare.

  • Share with the rest of the world the news from Western Equatoria in particular and South Sudan at large.
  • Promote evangelization in the diocese as well as share messages of hope with the people of South Sudan and whole world.
  • Promote justice and peace by sharing information related to justice and peace and human integral development.
