In a bid to address the challenges faced by vulnerable groups, the Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CODEP) has stepped up to support persons with disabilities in Nzara County by donating essential food and household items.
The donation drive, held on Saturday, saw a significant number of individuals, including the elderly, persons with leprosy, and paralyzed individuals, benefit from the initiative.
The distributed items included salt, beans, rice, cooking oil, laundry soap, sugar, and other essential commodities aimed at alleviating the effects of the rising cost of living in South Sudan.
Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt gratitude to CODEP for their timely intervention, emphasizing that the donations would significantly improve their standard of living amidst the ongoing economic challenges in the country.
Speaking to Anisa FM during the event, several beneficiaries lauded the organization for their support saying, "This donation has come at the right time," said one recipient. "The high cost of living has made it almost impossible for us to afford basic necessities. We are deeply grateful to CODEP for remembering us in our time of need."
South Sudan’s ongoing economic crisis has disproportionately affected persons with disabilities, leaving them vulnerable to hunger and poverty.
CODEP has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the less fortunate and called on other organizations and stakeholders to join hands in uplifting vulnerable populations across South Sudan.
