Hundreds of vulnerable internally displaced persons sheltering in different camps in Tombura County of South Sudan Western Equatoria State and some returning IDPs have received varieties of non-food items and farming tools courtesy of the Catholic organization for development and peace (CODEP).
The non-food items include blankets, mats, jerrycans, and mosquito nets while the farming tools included hoes, recs, and axes.
During the distribution on 27th December 2022, some departments of organized forces such as the Police, wildlife, and SSPDF including the county authority received Wheelbarrows and spades to help clean their institutions and town.
The internally displaced persons are those who escaped more than one year ago from tribal conflict in Tombura County, displacing thousands of civil populations and killing hundreds of people.
The distributed items from the humanitarian wing of CODEP are expected to help the IDPs who mostly sleep with no good blankets, and with no mosquito nets to prevent mosquito bites.
Mr. Gibson Kamilo Bakuyo a representative of CODEP while addressing the masses in Tombura County, reaffirmed the organization’s keenness to continue lobbying for more support for the IDPs.
Kamilo said the non-food items were donated by Caritas South Sudan while the farming tools were donated by the World Food Program to the vulnerable community to prepare for farming as the rainy season sets in early next year.
