Vision South Sudan (ViSS), a newly established community-based organization, has officially launched an initiative to empower people living with disabilities by equipping them with essential life skills.
The event, held at the Yambio Civic Engagement Center, brought together community members, government officials, and partners to celebrate this milestone in promoting inclusion and development for marginalized groups in the region.
ViSS focuses on addressing the diverse needs of grassroots communities, particularly in health, nutrition, education, agriculture, and livelihoods. The organization emphasizes sustainable peace, inclusive development, and ensuring that all members of society, including those with special needs, can contribute to and benefit from community growth.
Speaking at the launch, Wanga Emmanuel, Director of ViSS, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to inclusivity and resilience. “We extend our gratitude to the South Sudan Red Cross for their ongoing support for people living with disabilities. Together, we aim to empower individuals with special needs to realize their potential and contribute to their own welfare and that of society at large,” he said.
The event highlighted the collaboration between ViSS, the South Sudan Red Cross, and the local government. Hon. Grace Apollo Musa, State Minister of General Education and Instruction, commended the initiative and pledged the government’s support. “This initiative is a significant step forward for people living with disabilities. We will work diligently to ensure the program runs smoothly without interference from any quarters,” she stated.
Mr. Majianga, chairperson representing people with disabilities, shared how the program is already making a difference. “We have started producing necklaces for women, girls, and men, and we see this as a new avenue for economic independence. I urge my colleagues to take this training seriously and fully benefit from the opportunities it presents,” he said.
Louise Nicolas, a representative of the South Sudan Red Cross Yambio Branch, praised the initiative saying “We are proud to see a local organization like Vision South Sudan taking such initiatives. The program will have a lasting impact on the lives of people with disabilities, and we are committed to supporting them in various localities,” he remarked.
The program aims to empower participants with skills in crafts, agriculture, and other livelihood activities, enabling them to improve their quality of life and actively contribute to their communities.
