Speaking after football tournament finals on Wednesday 9, November 2022, at Yambio freedom, Hon. Grace Apollo, who was the guest of honor and the Minister of Education and General Instruction, western Equatoria state thanked JRS for the great work and congratulated all the students for the job well-done.
Hon. Apollo further appealed to all education partners to “borrow a leaf” from JRS. “We need more partners to be doing what JRS have done. JRS have done it today, tomorrow let me see other partners of education doing the same thing”, she lamented. She further appealed to JRS to expand the tournament to other far counties of western Equatoria state like Tambura, Maridi, Nzara, greater Mundri, Ibba, Ezo, Nagero and Mvolo.
Hon. Grace Apollo applauded the players and said that she felt honored, that she has people in western Equatoria state who are going to be presidents, governors and ministers. She encouraged everyone to love one another and stressed that peace and unity should be maintained in western Equatoria state. Bishop Abangite College of Science and Technology won the tournament after defeating Bangasi Academy 2-0 to lift the trophy of the inaugural inter-school football tournament for secondary schools
Hon. Apollo donated 3 balls to winning school and two balls to first runners up.
Minister of culture, youth and sports in Western Equatoria state, speaking during the handing over of the trophy to the champions, applauded JRS organization for the good initiative of organizing inter-school tournament for the secondary schools. Hon Bagzimbi encouraged JRS organization to do something for the uneducated youth because they are also part of our community. He encouraged all schools to practice hard in order to come up with better results next time.
On his part, JRS education coordinator, Mr. Tako James was very grateful for the players and the schools which participated in the tournament. “This tournament is organized especially for social cohesion, we need all the schools we are supporting and the schools we are not supporting to feasibly co-exist and socially know themselves,” he said.
