Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio Diocese during the general audience on Friday 21st April 2023, sent his message of sympathy to the people of Sudan, urging for peace, unity and reconciliation among the conflicting parties.
“Violence in Sudan is not affecting them alone but also the neighboring Countries are affected”, he said.
The prelate called upon the faithful to join him in prayers for the fellow faithful Christians living in Sudan. “We should pray for our brothers and sisters who are now suffering from conflict in their Country”.
He added that, war is horrible in a country as it destroys the beauty of the nation and its people. “People are losing their lives, properties and other belonging, causing frustration and trauma in the people of Sudan as a result of conflict “he explained.
The violence in Sudan has left at least 420 people dead and 3,700 injured, according to the World Health Organization.
Fighting between army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan's forces and his former Deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) began on April 15 over a dispute on the planned integration of the RSF into the regular army.
The move was a key condition for a deal aimed at restoring Sudan's democratic transition after the military toppled former leader Omar al-Bashir in April 2019 following mass citizen protests.
The two men had joined forces to oust a civilian government installed after Bashir's downfall, before turning on each other.
