In a bold move to strengthen financial management and promote sustainability within the Diocese, Curia has announced the re-establishment of the Diocesan Financial Inter-Service (DFIS). Officially began on Monday 20th January, 2025, DFIS aims to provide modern, secure, and community-focused financial solutions for the Catholic faithful and the wider community.

Positioned as a pioneering, faith-based microfinance institution, DFIS seeks to bridge the gap in financial services in the region. It combines cutting-edge technology and global market strategies with the ideals of the Catholic Church to meet the growing demands of its clientele.

At a press briefing held in his office, Fr. Dominic Sasa, the Diocesan Chancellor, emphasized the importance of this initiative noting that DFIS will operate under a comprehensive framework and policy guidelines set by its board of governance, ensuring transparency and accountability.

"The re-establishment of DFIS is a crucial step in breaking the cycle of poverty across the Diocese and beyond," Fr. Sasa stated. "This initiative is designed to empower individuals, institutions, and communities by providing access to innovative financial services, fostering financial independence, and supporting socio-economic growth."

The re-introduction of DFIS comes as a response to the critical lack of commercial banking services in the region. Its mission is to offer accessible, faith-aligned financial solutions that alleviate poverty, enhance income levels, and encourage economic stability.

The vision of DFIS is to enable financial sustainability through its services, which will be available to Catholic institutions, parishes, individual clients, and businesses. By promoting financial literacy and integrity, DFIS aims to uplift the living standards of communities and drive long-term socio-economic development.

The initiative was established under the leadership of His Lordship, Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio. It aligns with the first Diocesan Synod status 180, which prioritizes investment, resource mobilization, and integral development for the people of God.

Through DFIS, the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio reinforces its mission of service and care, laying the foundation for greater economic opportunities and the sustainable development of the region.
