40 Members Participate in Community Child Protection Committee Training at Basukangbi, Nzara County.

On August 17, 2022 the office of Women and Family under COPDEP (Catholic Organization for Development and Peace) in the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio moved to Basukangbi Payam of Nzara County in Western Equatoria State and trained 40 members of Community Based Committee on Child protection as way to minimize child related issues affecting children.
Gibson Kamilio Bakuyo who led the team of three social workers to Basukangbi said “they are on the ground to give the training to parents and community members on the best interest of a child, Rights of a child, Parental responsibilities and duties.
Elizabeth Bazukpete, the Chairperson of Women in Basukangbi during the training testifies “that it has is the first time for her and some members of the community to be train on the crucial issues of a child in the area of Child Rights, Parental responsibilities and duties, something that is missing in her community and they act contrary to that”. She also acknowledged after the training that they have gained some facts and responsibilities of the parents as enshrined in the South Sudan Child Act 2008
Training included key areas like, formation and re-restructuring of the Community Child Based Protection committee in the area and the communities testified to their previous mistakes against children and promise to follow what they have learnt.
The training was conducted by Women and Family Department under COPED in the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio with Support from War Child Holland.
