“Cross-Continental Collaboration: Spanish Eye Specialists Doctors Depart After Successful Eye Health Initiative in Tambura County and Nzara County "

The group of eye specialists from Spain Thursday 18th April 2024 has left the Diocese of Tambura Yambio, South Sudan after completing 92 successful catalytic sugary on the people of greater Tambura County and Nzara County western part of South Sudan western Equatoria state.

Speaking to the diocesan media house, Dr Blanca Garcia who is the coordinator for the Spanish eye project reveals that it was a good experience to be with people of the area while working to improve health in the eight days spent.

The eye campaign began on 5th April with a screening of patients in Tambura Hospital, and Ezo Hospital, and eye surgeries at Ave Maria St. Peters Health Centre from 8th to 12th and St. Theresa Mission Hospital Nzara from April 15th to 17th 2024.

According to Dr. Blanca, many patients have long-term illnesses and it makes it difficult to do the operation on their eyes as a result of many of them having scars of precious infections like ulcers among others.

In his address, the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio, Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala met with the team before departure, appreciated them, and assured the team of his prayers for them and support to help the people in need in his Diocese.

The bishop also gave traditional symbolic gifts to the team of eye doctors, urging them to continue with the support while promising to work hand in hand for the project to continue.
