Catholic Bishops in Sudan and South Sudan have in a collective voice called upon all Sudanese to rise above their differences and put their house in order after the visit of the Vatican secretary of state.

“It is time for us South Sudanese to rise above our differences and put our country in order and its citizens to experience the dignity of living as we deserve. It is a collective responsibility which we must carry according to the Gospel values”.

Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference (SCBC) has described the visit of the Vatican Secretary of State to the African nation as “encouragement”, insisting that they should remain vigilant for the realization of Pope Francis coming in the country.

“Basing ourselves on the message of our Beloved and special envoy of the Holy Father Francis, we count the occasion of these past four days as encouragement to remain vigilant for the coming of Pope Francis to our country”.

In the statement dated Friday July 8th, members of SCBC thanked different stake holders who offered their time and different support towards accession they have celebrated. In addition they single out the steering committee in the Archdiocese of Juba for facilitating the visit.

“We are indeed grateful for the leadership of His Grace Stephene Ameyu, the Archbishop of Juba who headed our Steering Committee and all collaborators for the success of the event that we have celebrated. Much thanks goes to our Ecumenical Sisterly Churches for the collaboration we have experienced together”.

In a statement signed by Rt. Rev. Tombe Trile Kuku, Bishop of El-Obeid and President of the Sudan, South Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference, they added that “our attention is drawn to our Government, Non-Governmental Organization, Business community, our Christians and our energetic youth for the enormous support and participation”, SCBC members say.

They also appealed to all people who have the responsibility of promoting peace in the United Nation and the like-minded organization to pay attention to Sudan which is dragging for more than year to come to the aid of Sudanese people.
