CDTY Officially Opens an Agricultural Training Centre and one Elementary School in Mupoi
A spectacular scene marked the official opening of an Agricultural Training Centre led by Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio (CDTY) His Lordship Barani Eduardo Hiiboro who rode a tractor as he led the ceremony on May 11, 2021, at a farm located in Mupoi Parish.
The diocesan agricultural training center will be used to train different categories of people in the Diocese and throughout Western Equatoria State on quality production of agricultural produce both for consumption and for commercial purposes.
Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio is located in the greenbelt region of South Sudan and is blessed with sufficient rainfall and abundant fertile land that is capable of producing all types of food. Western Equatoria State where the diocese is located is remained the breadbasket of South Sudan according to the Government and Agriculturists professionals.
Mr. Marcello Constatino Bakuyo, the Administrator of the center will train young people, men and women to have knowledge on quality food production and the first people who are going to benefit from the center are the seminarians who are in the orientation program in Mupoi although it is for all citizens.
Speaking at the same function the Mupoi Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Vairi Natale said that their vision for the parish agricultural farmland is that after 10 years, the cash crops will be bringing income to the Parish and the Diocese at large.
He pledged to work together with the center’s administrator in order to achieve the mission and objectives of the center.
Bishop Hiiboro Kussala blessed the farmland and urged the administration of the center to officially commence the training. As the training kicks off with the 23 seminarians who are currently in Mupoi, Bishop Hiiboro ordered that from now onwards, the seminarians will first go through agricultural training at the center as part of their initial formation. He thus advised the seminarians to take the training seriously.
In a separate event, the Bishop blessed and commissioned the renovation of St. Luis Elementary school in Mupoi which is expected to start admitting pupils for primary school. The institution is expected to have a child-friendly learning environment which will encourage more pupils to stay at school and complete all their learning process. In a related event, the diocese has renovated the boarding secondary school in Mupoi for girls and will start operating this year 2021.
Mupoi is the first Parish where the first missionaries who brought the Catholic faith in 1912 in Western Equatoria initially settled. Consequently, most of the learning institutions were first established in Mupoi and many intellectuals from Western Equatoria got the chance to access education in Mupoi.
