45 Members of CBOs received economic empowerment training.

Forty-five members of Community-based organizations (CBOs) drawn from Yambio and Nzara County completed a short course on economic empowerment, through the auspice of Hamming-bird action for peace and development.

Speaking at the closure of the training, Mrs.Woduapai Madeline, the economic empowerment officer with Hamming-bird, says “the members of the CBOs were empowered with business skills and life skills to strengthen their organizations.”

Mrs. Woduapai Madeline stated that Hamming -bird action for peace and development offers start up-in kind particularly manual manageable machines and materials like tents, grinding mills, sewing machines, and knitting materials to make sure that the trained youth can come into the business and the start-up is only given to beneficiaries who are members of the groups who are already participating in saving efforts within their groups.

She also added that the organization also raises awareness of business and local products for local markets with an aim of collaborating with well-structured producers and the chamber of commerce to inform the public on the importance of local produce. They also offer computer training and job, and career guidance to students in western Equatorial states to shape them to be able to make informed decisions on their future.

Lastly, Mrs. Wodupai Madeline mentioned that they face challenges an organization which include;  high duties levied on items imported from Uganda for the benefit of the community, high rate of defaulters among the beneficiaries who are reluctant to clear the repayment of their soft loans so as to allow HAPD reach many targeted beneficiaries hence looking forward to engaging the custom regulatory body to pay attention to HAPD compliance with the imported items and working hand in hand with their targeted beneficiaries to pay much attention for the progress of the group and individual businesses.

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke during the event expressed their gratitude to the organization for the great initiative they are doing in impacting the lives of people in the community to be self-reliance
