The head of the World Food Program in Western Equatoria State has encouraged heads of Parishes in the Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio to embark massively on commercial farming to support the Diocese.
Addressing members during the annual pastoral general assembly on the morning of Wednesday Mr. Gabriel Rosa, emphasized the importance of farming as one way to fund the needs of the Parishes when the farm’s products are sold.
Mr. Rosa noted that farming is the most economic activity in the current era that help in fighting hunger in the world, citing that people should now abolish the culture of subsistent farming and begin to practice the habit of large cultivation to fight food insecurity in the Western Equatoria State.
“You also need to embark on extensive cash crops plantation in your thirty- five Parishes across the Diocese. This should be done through specialization, for an instant, if a Parish can specialize in the coffee plantation, another Parish specializes in Sorghum plantation, etc”. Mr. Gabriel added
He said cash plantation is a strong economy for a community that aspires to develop. The WFP-Head of field office acknowledged CDTTY for its continued efforts in supporting peace initiatives in the State.
Mr. Gabriel donated six wheelbarrows, axes, water tags, and pick axes to the six deaneries of CDTY.
More than one hundred and fifty Parishioners including clergies from thirty-five parishes under six deaneries of the Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio gathered at Palica to participate in a three-day annual pastoral general meeting.
