Food production is the way to peaceful South Sudan

“A thriving agriculture sector is crucial to long-term peace and development in South Sudan. Post war situation is not the end, food production is the way to peaceful South Sudan.  Millet remain the most edible food in Western Equatoria State being the traditional food among the Azande cooked as (Bakinde) for all types of soups and it is mostly being planted in the second season”, Mangbabondo explains.

For Mr. Elias millet is highly demanding in the market and for home consumption in Western Equatoria State, “having enough millets greatly reduces lack of food in families and its also a source of income for farmers” he said.

Ginana shared with RURUGENE online that he took it upon himself and his family yearly to produce millet during the second season of planting for both family consumption and for market to enable him pay his children school fees.

“This year I’m happy because my farm has produced good quality millet and now, I’m harvesting”, Ganana noted.

In a separate occasion Fr. Dominic Sasa too encouraged Christian community of CDTY to cultivate Maize for the second season of plantation in WES to sustain their living.

Fr. Sasa who happen to be the Parish Priest of our Lady of Fatima parish in Maridi explained that the work he is doing has been supported by the hands of Small Christian Communities (SCCS) in order to develop their parish.

Bishop Eduardo has been advocating for quality production of Agricultural produce in Western Equatoria both for consumption and for commercial purposes since the Diocese is located in the greenbelt region of South Sudan and is blessed with sufficient rainfall and abundant fertile land that is capable of producing all types of food.
