Bishop Applauds the Spirit of Humekodabe at St. Joseph’s Parish
Parishioners of St Joseph Parish Maingbangaru, in the village of Saura recently demonstrated the true spirit of Humekodabe (joining hands together to do something) when they came out in large numbers to help the bishop tender his 15 acres farm situated in the area.
The Christian community of that Parish mobilized over 100 of them and joined the bishop at the farm where they managed to plant peanuts, maize, beans, and cassava.
“I was so touched, so impressed that these men and women, old and young all mobilized and joined up with me to do the job. I worked physically and I found myself sweating but I enjoyed the company of these ordinary people,” Bishop Hiiboro expressed adding that the people showed him, love, as they were so generous with their time.
“Working on the farm is very tough but in the company of these people, they made the work so easy and I came to appreciate the philosophy I have been telling people that Humekodabe, (joining hands to do something) reinforces the energy and transforms the community. Humekodabe became practical on that day because the amount of work, the area covered was so big.”
The Bishop who has been thinking about what to do to that poor community situated in the Central Deanery of the diocese in Yambio County said that the support given to him by these people at his farm overtook him.
“Because of this goodness, this openness, this love, this care, this respect, I wish to do something that will last forever so that the children of these people, this community will be transformed by this way of putting hands together, a scenario that is meant to change the situation of their place.”
Touched by the action of the people of St. Joseph Parish, Bishop Hiiboro plans to have a secondary school in the area so that children from the said village can have easy access to a secondary school.
“I am opening a secondary school in this area to allow the children of this village not to go very far or transfer to town centers in order to access secondary school. We already have a primary school in the area which the church is going to take over and run and in addition, we will be having a secondary school,” he intimated adding that this kind of reward would last forever.
“The goodness these people have shown by joining me in the farm to work with me deserves a reward that would last forever and would have an impact in the future life of the community,” the Bishop revealed of a process that has been in the diocese’s plan adding that proposed school’s headteacher has already been appointed and is currently working closely with the diocese administration to spearhead way forward for the school development.
