CDTY Bishop Calls for Community Support as Rii-Yubu Gears Up for Historic Centenary Celebration from 5th – 9th December 2024

With only one month and four days to the beginning of the Centenary celebration of faith in Rii-Yubu Ave Maria Catholic Mission of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio (CDTY), bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, the bishop of CDTY, has called upon all the Christians of CDTY and all people of goodwill to generously contribute in kind or cash towards the realization of the celebration.
In his letter shared with the Rurugene Online Newsletter bishop Kussala noted that given the nature of the activities involved in the Centenary celebration, the contribution is towards the emergency road repair connecting to Rii-Yubu and Gboko which should be done by November, provision of facilities like tents, general printing work and banners, vestments for the celebration of the Holy Mass, and general liturgical needs, fuel, lighting system, sound system, and finally provision of food.
For the organization, the bishop appointed Mr. Patrick Riruyu as the contact person and his team to coordinate all collections for the celebration (0927346516).
The prelate further expressed in his letter that the 100 years of faith in Rii-Yubu have great significance to the local community that missionaries found in place and all those men and women who rested in peace, to changes the missionaries brought like education, salvation, health services, and promotion of culture, and the teamwork they brought between the local community and missionaries which has moved the diocese for the last two years.
In his letter dated 30th October 2024, the local ordinary of CDTY pointed out the calendar of events from 5th – 9th December 2024.
5th December – Arrival in Rii-Yubu
6th December – Dedication of Rii-Yubu and social celebration of centenary and reception of guests
7th December – Ordination of both deacons and priests.
8th December – The peak and mega celebration of the centenary and reception of guests
9th December – Rededication of pro-Cathedral of St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Parish Tombura-Yambio and planting 40 peace trees in Tombura.
He further said that several activities will be involved including the inauguration of a multipurpose hall for peace, peace garden for South Sudan, Marian Shrine, an Avocational school, and Rii-Yubu as a health hub for South Sudan.
Aware of the insecurity cases in Tombura bishop Kussala said that the activities will extend to Tombura where they will open a garden of peace, planting 40 trees by different groups, and dedication of Tombura Parish Church as a pro-cathedral.
