Diocesan Head Catechist asks Christians to Respect and Obey Priests
The Head Catechist from the Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio has appealed to all the baptized Christians to respect and obey their priests because Christ himself gave them (the priests) power to consecrate bread and wine into his (Christ’s) body and the blood during Eucharistic celebrations.
Speaking to Anisa FM Radio during an interactive interview, Richard Gbiaundore Yoani Diaborongba the head catechists at the diocese expressed that Christ instituted the Holy Sacrament of Eucharist on Holy Thursday to those whom he loved as the food for life.
Catechist Richard expressed that Christ gave the power to the priest only to do that which cannot be done by any other person, turning bread and wine into Christ’s body and blood.
“This power was only given to the priests only and not to any other people, not even deacons or seminarians or catechists or rulers of this world. Priests are very special people in the lives of Christians,” Catechist Richard adding that even though priests live among the people, their authorities should not be undermined as it comes from Christ himself.
Catechist Richard encouraged believers to take Jesus Christ as their role model in their lives so that they can imitate his humility and love. He further expressed that though Christ was the son of God, he humbled himself to do the work of a slave by washing the feet of his Disciple in order to show them the way to Heaven.
Meanwhile, he also emphasized the role of women who were blessed by God from the beginning to do his work; it is because of the willingness of women to become mothers that priests, bishops including the Pope in Rome, and rulers of this world came into existence.
He urges all the people to appreciate the good work done by the women of providing great love, compassion protection, and nurturing of children.
