Bishop Hiiboro Launches a Parish in a Predominately Protestant Area
During his visit to the Corpus Christi Easter Deanery in the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro officially launched the presence of the Catholic Church in Mambe by commissioning St. Lucy, Mambe Mission. Mambe is predominately a protestant denomination area where the presence of the Catholic Church has remained very minimal.
“This is the first time that the Catholic Church has been planted in this area," Bishop Hiiboro explained adding that the new parish will be referred to as Mission to signify that it is a serious place where the Catholic Church is moving on with the work of evangelization.
During the occasion, Bishop Hiiboro launched the construction of a residence parish house for the priests who will be serving in the place. This means that the priests will be staying within the proximity of the people they serve. The Bishop also launched a kindergarten in the area to provide a learning facility for the children in the area.
The initiative was very much appreciated by the community members owing to the fact that the presence of a Catholic school in the area is something that the community has been yearning for since the whole place does not have a school.
“One of the reasons why I visit this place is its loneliness following a terrible tragedy that shocked the place back in 2015. A petrol tanker overturned and burst into flames killing over 200 people, leaving over 300 other bedridden. The community, therefore, has many orphans who are left without proper care,” Bishop Hiiboro explained adding that it was against this background that he felt the need to be closer to members of this community, thus the establishment of a parish and a school.
The presence of the parish and the presence of the catholic school will be a consolation and a way to participate in the lives of these people in order to bring hope, courage and to steer them towards moving to the right direction,” Bishop Hiiboro pointed out as he called upon all the people in the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio to join hands with the people of Mambe and support them in any ways they can.
