Members of the Missionary Community of St. Paul (MCSP) from 25th to 26th November 2024, trained 40 catechists from St. Thomas and Ave Maria Parishes on “reaching out with a difference, children safeguarding and the vulnerable, role of the Catechists, and how to tackle the problems they go through”.
In an online interview with Sr. Lilian Omari MCSP, she underscored that the training was important following the sentiments of Pope Francis that Catechists are the eye of the Church.
“Pope Francis a few months ago said the catechists are the eye of the church, they are important people to spread peace, bring community, and strengthen the faith”.
Sr. Lilian a member of MCSP also revealed that the training is done every year, and they are glad that this year they have four women Catechists compared to only one last year.
“The meeting is done every year. At least from Thursday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. This year we have 4 women catechists, unlike last year we had only one female catechist thus we are trying to follow what Pope Francis is telling us to include women in the ministry”.
According to Sr. Lilian Omari, the Catechists learned a lot, had several sessions, interacted with each other, shared their experiences, and finally, they had a moment to pray for the two Catechists; Moses of Dingimo, and John Bariabande who died last year.
