Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio Celebrates Patron Saint’s Day
As the world celebrates the feast of St. Joseph the Worker on May 1st, 2021, the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio held a special celebration as it celebrates for the second time, the feast of her patron.
“At the end of our first diocesan Synod in 2019, we all unanimously came to a conclusion that we place and consecrate our diocese to St. Joseph the Worker. This happened for a special reason, which meant courage,” Bishop Hiiboro, the local ordinary of the diocese explained adding that “it was a courageous stand that the diocese wanted to have a critical look at our faith, at our ways of evangelization, at our Christian life and we wanted to understand in-depth what it means to be Christians, to be a Catholic and to have a diocese.”
Bishop Hiiboro further explained that provided an opportunity to have a critical look at the strength, weaknesses, and opportunities available and whatever else could be there.
“This we carried well for a period of two to three years when we had the synod and in the process we came to realize that St. Joseph is the most admired person in the process of searching and organizing a community, to organize an institution as a diocese.”
He expressed that the synod participants looked at the role model of the Holy Family and found St. Joseph the head of that family more suitable as he is known as an upright man, a humble person, a hard-working person, a silent hard worker, and a foster father of Jesus Christ.
“These qualities touched us, they meant something that we admired, something that we had to do, something that we had to work on in order to turn our diocese around and put it on the right track and therefore we all agreed that we entrust our diocese in the hands of St. Joseph,” he explained.
Even though the diocese was celebrating for the second time the patronage of St. Joseph, it felt more like the first time, since the diocese was officially launching her commitment and dedication to St. Joseph.
“To be a faith community, to be an honest family, to be a hard-working family, and to be a patient family, we are committed to walking in the footsteps of St. Joseph to make the diocese a holy place where we can find God, a place where we can gather our broken pieces and rebuild our future, a place where we can protect and take care of one another jut as St. Joseph protected and took good care of the Holy family.”
As the world celebrated the Feast of St. Joseph the Worker, Bishop Hiiboro urged faithful of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio to pray through the Patron Saint so that God may increase in them the virtues of hard work, humility, truthfulness, and integrity in whatever they do.
