Stop Being Tribal, Bishop Eduardo Tells Christians
Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala has urged Christians in Western Equatoria State to shun tribalism and treating each other with equality, while at the same time taking the moral stand and inviting God in all difficult situations in their lives.
Bishop Eduardo lament that, the absence of leadership in a group or in the community brings confusion in an area, he urged Christian communities in the country to act as true followers of Jesus Christ by showing love to all adding that, everyone was born as a leader to different families.
“Tribalism makes those who call themselves Christians forget that Jesus Christ has made us all brothers and sisters in His blood and in the sacrament of Baptism,” Bishop Hiiboro explained adding that for the church and every Christian, we must learn to collaborate with obedient faith in the work of salvation and to do so with the same fidelity, humility, silence, and purity of heart in order to care for one another.
Drawing lessons from the biblical parable of ‘The Vine’ (John 15, 5-6), Bishop Hiiboro called on all Christians, as individuals, and as a community, to be first and foremost grafted into Christ.
He, therefore, advised them to look ahead to the mission of evangelism that awaits them and plan for the way forward to carry it out rather than focusing on the past and on trivial issues such as tribalism and states of origin of clerics.
The Bishop called on both Zande and Balanda communities in Western Equatoria State to embrace unity at every aspect of their lives because all are created in the image of God.
He further urged all people of Western Equatoria State, organizations, and the government to work for peace unity, and reconciliation among the people in the state in order to pave way for development to prevails.
