Bishop Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio (CDTY), yesterday 22nd, September 2024, at St. Mary Mother of God Parish Yambio, urged South Sudanese citizens to embrace love for their country as a pathway to peace.

In his homily the local ordinary of CDTY emphasized that true tranquility begins within the hearts of the people, advocating for a collective commitment to offer the best of themselves for the nation.

“To get this country peaceful, it will go within our hearts. We must fall in love with our country and dedicate ourselves to its future.”

Addressing the harsh realities faced by the people of South Sudan, he called on a collective conversion of its people to confront the evil inflicted upon one another, acknowledging that past wrongs are essential for healing and reconciliation. “We have to go back to conversation,” he said, stressing the importance of dialogue in fostering understanding and unity.

In his message, Bishop Hiiboro encouraged citizens to reflect on their actions and recognize the impact of their choices on the nation's well-being. He asserted that peace is not merely the absence of conflict but a shared commitment to building a brighter future together.

“The results we seek will only come when we genuinely invest in our country and each other,” he stated. “It is time for us to be converted, to repent, and to work towards a common goal of peace.”

He, however, looking ahead the bishop expressed hope that the recently extended two-year period would serve as a transformative time of repentance and conversion for the nation. “May I hope that the two years extended are years of repentance, the years allotted must be a year of conversion we must become aware of what has not been done well so that we can be able to build our country”.
