The Network for Civil Society Organizations (NeCSOs), a coalition of civil society groups within Western Equatoria State (WES), has officially launched a six-month Political and Civic Engagement Project supported by a Quick Impact Project partnership with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), seeking to strengthen political awareness and civic engagement across the region.

The project focuses on fostering public participation in the peace implementation process, particularly through active involvement in the constitution-making and electoral processes, through enhanced civic education.

Speaking at the launch event, Governor Lt. Gen. Alfred Futuyo Karaba emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring smooth operations of the project throughout the state.

“The state government will support this project fully to ensure it reaches each of the ten counties effectively”, said Governor Futuyo.

He urged NeCSOs and UNMISS to ensure the project creates a substantial understanding of the constitution-making process across WES communities.

Mr. Wanga Emmanuel, Chairperson of NeCSOs, highlighted the importance of the initiative, stating that it would include a series of capacity-building trainings across all counties.

“Through these trainings, communities will gain a clear understanding of the constitution-making process”, said Mr. Wanga.

UNMISS Representative Mr. Emmanuel Nduku-Ndani reaffirmed the mission's commitment to supporting state government efforts, noting, “This project aims to empower citizens by helping them understand their roles in peace implementation and political participation”.
