Bishop Edwardo Hiiboro Kussala of Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, South Sudan Expresses Condolence and Solidarity with the Church in Malawi Following the demise of Archbishop Ziyaye
“May your gentle soul Archbishop Ziyaye rest in the bosom of God our father and our creator, Amen.”
Following the death of Most Rev. Tarsisius G. Ziyaye, the Archbishop of Lilongwe, Malawi, Rt. Rev. Barani Edwardo Hiiboro Kussala expressed condolense, solidarity and prayers to the entire Catholic Church in Malawi, the clergy, the religious and the lay faithful of the Archdiocese of Lilongwe and the family of the late Archbishop Ziyaye.
"Archbishop Ziyaye is a man who has not only served the people of Malawi but the entire region of the Association of Members Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa - AMECEA, which comprise of nine countries. He was a very good leader, dedicated to his service, a happy man whose spirituality you would certainly see displayed in his attitude and way of doing things," Bishop Hiiboro said.
Bishop Hiiboro who describes the Late Archbishop Ziyaye as a friend whom he knew even before he became a bishop learned a lot from him.
"One of his priests was my colleague in school as we studied together in Rome and he would speak to me about his bishop from time to time. So when Archbishop Ziyaye came to Rome at some point, I was able to see him and interacted with him and his gait and mannerism strike me a lot as I lavished in his wisdom. And when I became a bishop we became good friends."
Bishop Hiiboro’s last encounter with the Late Archbishop Ziyaye was in July 2018, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia when they attended AMECEA Plenary Assembly and the memories of their being together will forever be cherished in his heart.
"We have lost a friend, we have lost a leader, but not losing him entirely because he as a servant of God and as a Church leader has served God abundantly and God has now called him home to rest."
Bishop Hiiboro is positive that the Late Archbishop Ziyaye having done a tremendous job here on earth will now be among the Saints interceding for us from above.
"I pass my sympathy to all his family members, our brother Bishops in Malawi who have lost one of their own, the people of God in Malawi and the Church in AMECEA that we hold together his legacy, his good relationship, hard work, humor and peace and harmony among us as we continue to grow."
“May your gentle soul Archbishop Ziyaye rest in the bosom of God our father and our creator, Amen.”
