BISHOP HIIBORO ORIENTATION: Role Model St Benedict

The rule of St. Benedict drags our eyes up to the stars but keeps our feet firmly on the ground, it calls us to perfection but keeps us sane.

BISHOP HIIBORO ORIENTATION: Role Model St Benedict

In the gospel of today Matthew 10:34-11:1, Jesus says to us in these challenging words;

"Anyone who prefers father or mother to me is not worthy of me.

Anyone who prefers son or daughter to me is not worthy of me.

Anyone who does not take his cross and follow in my footsteps is not worthy of me.

Anyone who finds his life will lose it; anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it."

Abandoning Comfort Zone

St Benedict whose Feast Day we celebrate today was a solitary hermit at Subiaco.

As an Abbot, he drew up a set of rules to guide the communal life of monasteries, and though not the first monastic rule ever, the Rule of St Benedict has proved so wise and balanced that it has served as the foundation of practically every attempt at communal living ever since.

For those of us in the world too, the Rule of St Benedict has much to say: it drags our eyes up to the stars but keeps our feet firmly on the ground; it calls us to perfection but keeps us sane.

Do you have a choice?

Making an option for Christ and his values is never a child's venture. It requires a determined spirit and a matured mind.

We know there are moments when stark choices need to be made to ensure we can still call ourselves disciples of Jesus, moments when we wield the sword of division or separation.

*Moving in confidence *

Do I want to save my life or to lose it? Am I ready to lose it, or do I cling on for fear of losing it?

This is perhaps the basic condition for discipleship, and no moralistic or perfect obedience to any law or system of rules can replace it.

I ask insistently for the grace of real interior freedom and for courage to be true to myself and to my calling. God come to my aid!

Happy New Week and do have a Renewed Life in Christ, we are strongly united in prayers.

Please do pray and work for justice!

Be richly blessed!
