In a press conference held on Wednesday 18th January 2023 after the steering committee meeting for the visit of Holy Father Pope Francis, the Sudan and South Sudan Catholics Bishop’s Conference (SSCBC) revealed to the people that they are ready as a conference to receive the Holy Father in South Sudan, Juba.

“On behalf of the bishop’s conference of Sudan and South Sudan, we are ready to receive the Holy Father to South Sudan, Juba and we thank different committees for having been resilient to prepare for the coming of the Holy Father and we hope that his coming will be enriching as a church and as a nation,” Archbishop Stephen Ameyu narrated, he continued, “the different committees came together beginning with the committee of Liturgy headed by Bishop Stephen Nyodho, the committee for the pilgrims headed by Bishop Santo, the committee for finance headed by Bishop Mathew, the committee for communication headed by Bishop Hiiboro,  among other committees”.

Archbishop Ameyu noted that they hope and pray that the coming of the Holy Father will be an opportunity for them to get their minds together and bring peace, reconciliation, and love for one another.

“All in all, this a kind of an opportunity for us to get our minds together and bring people of South Sudan peace, reconciliation, and love of one another, we hope and pray that his visit will be successful, it will not be like any other visit”.

On his part during the press, Bishop Stephen Nyodho, who is the deputy of the steering committee for the Pope’s visit called upon all South Sudanese “to prepare themselves spiritually to receive the Holy Father and also work hard so that this visit may be a moment of transformation of our country, coming together as people of God, to see to it that things change in our lives as spiritual being and work towards reconciliation as the Archbishop said, towards unity and most of all towards peace in this country”. He also informed the media to continue spreading the information about the coming of the Holy Father to the people of God.
