About 3,585 people from November 2021 to December 2022 with eye problems have been successfully operated on at St. Theresa Mission hospital with others from Ezo, Tambura and Nagero Counties in Western Equatoria State.

Recently, over 130 Outpatients from Tambura, Source Yubu, Ave Maria Ngboko, Nagero, Nzara County, and Ezo have successfully benefited from eye surgeries in collaboration with ophthalmological doctors from Spain.

Speaking to Anisa Radio, Dr. Maad Top, the Medical Doctor of St. Thereza said that the achievement has been met through partnerships with friends across the globe. Dr. Maad urged the community of Western Equatoria state to collectively work with the hospital so as to achieve a common goal.

Top urged the team of the eye specialist from Spain to repeat this medical and mobile eye clinic at least every three months to lessen eye ophthalmic problems in the State.

For his part Dr. Sunguzaa an ophthalmologist in charge of the modern Eye clinic who have worked voluntarily in the State since 2008 calls on the public to build a relationship with friends around the globe “through this, we have received a high team of ophthalmological doctors from Spain”.

The construction of the eye clinic was funded by partners from Germany who are willing to continue supporting the ophthalmic unit with equipment and capacity building for the local eye care practitioners.

He stated that “though we have partners, there is a great need for collaborative local efforts such as; physical support, appreciative support, material support and offer for voluntary service remains our collective effort”.

He called on the government to construct roads to facilitate transport for both partners and locals.

The eye clinic which is an initiative of the Catholic Diocese Tombura-Yambio to solve medical eye problems in the State was launched in 2021.

Meanwhile, Kia Moses the Hospital administrator appreciated the specialist and appealed to the state government to speed up the construction of roads to minimize transport costs for partners to intervene and save lives.
