This year, the international commemoration was celebrated under the theme; “Our nurse, our future’’ and “Together again, from evidence to reality”.

Speaking during the celebration, the Minister of Health called on the nurses and midwives to observe their professional ethics which shows they should love their profession and the people that they serve despite the challenges that they may be facing. He added that hard work overturns challenges but when you remain submissive to challenges, you will remain submissive to challenges and end up with no progress in your entire life.  He promises to cooperate with the health institutions to provide the necessary support and provide capacity building through continued medical education. The minister of health called on the nurses to remain updated with the guidelines in order to administer medications under the most updated medical guides.

For her part, Juliana Aninyesi a professional midwife and maternity in charge at Yambio State Hospital appreciated the task force for the celebration and encourages her fellow nurses and midwives in the nation to minimize challenges and gear toward saving lives adding that mothers should always attend ante-natal as early as the first trimester to be able to receive a comprehensive package of ante-natal care that leads to safe delivery.

She added that male partners to be responsible for accompanying their partners, especially for the first Ante-natal and be offered several medical checks as a couple to be able to manage the life of the new expected baby adding that it is a collective responsibility for both partners to cater for birth kits since the clean and safe delivery kit is essential for the newborn baby.

On the other hand, Mariatha Leopold Magianga called on the general public to understand the benefits of hospital delivery stressing that the health facilities are equipped with a high level of health practitioners able to offer comprehensive antenatal, intra, and postpartum services, administer timely and correct drugs and ready to refer to the next level of facility when required. She also called on the general public to embark on facility delivery rather than community delivery which involves a lot of complications adding that provision of delivery kits should prioritize as encouraged during health education at every Antenatal visit.
