CDTY Launches Modern Eye Clinic in Nzara County
The Catholic Diocese of Tambura-Yambio (CDTY) on Saturday, September 27, launched the first-ever modern eye clinic in Nzara County of Western Equatoria State to provide comprehensive eye care and prevent blindness among members of the community.
The eye clinic has been constructed by the Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio with financial support from the Government of Germany.
Addressing the government dignitaries and Nzara County Community members during the opening of the clinic, Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tambura-Yambio said that the Catholic Church is not only concerned with the spiritual nourishment but also the holistic care for individuals.
“We are also involved in social work because the human being is complete and requires holistic care; as such cannot only preach the Word of God but also must extend some services to the community. Among the services we do as a Church is what we have come to open today the eye clinic,” Bishop Hiiboro explained adding that the Diocese has four major health facilities in the State situated in Nzara, Maridi, Tambura, and Source Yubu. The Bishop further expressed that the Diocese is more committed to a health program in the State.
Meanwhile, South Sudan vice president for service cluster Hussein Abdelbagi Akol said that the Country
has insufficient eye clinics, a situation that forces many South Sudanese to travel abroad to seek eye treatments. He observed that the few eye clinics in the country are overwhelmed by the number of people seeking care on daily basis.
Abdelbagi applauded the Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio for the great initiative towards health care providers for the people of South Sudan. He promised that his office will support and work closely with the new eye clinic to ensure eye care is delivered to the public.
“My office is ready to support this center so that it can offer quality eye services to our population in South Sudan; this center will not only benefit people of Western Equatoria alone but the entire Country,” Akol said adding that rather than having local people travel to Nairobi and Khartoum for eye care services, the new modern eye clinic in Nzara has come as a blessing to the people of Western Equatoria and to an extension, the entire country of South Sudan.
However, the undersecretary at the national ministry of Health, Ms. Victoria Anib Majur urged the Community members in Western Equatoria State to take good care of the newly established health care facility in Nzara County so that it may serve the population effectively.
Majur said the establishment of the eye clinic in Nzara County is in line with the vision of the government which is taking services to the people where they are. The launching of the eye clinic was witnessed by the national minister of Public Service, the National minister of high education, the Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, and National members of parliament.
