CATHOLIC BISHOPS PLENARY IN KHARTOUM WAS A SUCCESS
The conference was chaired by the current president Bishop Trille Tombe of El Obeid Diocese of Sudan who took over from Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro after the expiring of his term.
The Catholic Bishops of Sudan and South Sudan concluded their Bishops Conference last week in Sudan’s capital Khartoum, the conference took a week. There has been a growth in Catholic Faith in the two sister countries unlike the previous years where Christians were being persecuted in Sudan. The conference was chaired by the current president Bishop Trille Tombe of El Obeid Diocese of Sudan who took over from Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro after the expiring of his term.
The Sudan and South Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference (SSSCBC) is meant for all Catholic Archbishops and Bishops of South Sudan and Sudan, the first ordinaries meeting was held in late 1929 in Khartoum, Sudan .The local hierarchy was established on December 1974 and the Episcopal Conference was born which later in 1976 became the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference.
After arrival from the Conference his Lordship Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro addressed his diocesan at Curia, Yambio on how the Bishops Conference for this year was a success and different because they were able to do things that had never been done before. He continued that the 2020 Conference was meant to reorganize the Bishop’s Conference, commitment on how to run and administer local churches in Sudan and South Sudan. “The meeting was reconciling, reassuring, for building confidence and cordiality” said the bishop. The plenary was also meant for Catholic Bishops from the two sister countries to team up and do what they couldn’t do in the previous years.
The bishop also said that there were changes made in the conference, part of the changes were appointment of a new National Pastoral Coordinator and creation of Social Communications Office. His Lordship expressed his joy and happiness as the new director of National Social Communications office for the Sudan and South Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference is Father Johnny Gbemboyo who is a priest from the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio (CDTY) and he will also add up as the National Pastoral Coordinator, the bishop saw this as a pride for the diocese.

Barani Hiiboro also expressed his joy at the peaceful situation in Khartoum especially among the South Sudanese communities who fled to seek refuge there. He said that the situation there had improved and there was no persecution of Christians anymore.
