Catholic Church Condemns the attacks on its institutions
The Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio has issued a statement condemning the recent attacks on its institutions which resulted not only in the looting of the property but also the unfortunate killing of the head catechist.
By October 26th Mupoi Catholic Parish has been vandalized by armed people within a span of one week. While on October 30th, the Solidarity community located at Riimenze Parish was looted by unknown criminals at gunpoint.
In a letter shared with Anisa Radio by the diocese Curia, the Church strongly condemn the acts which included vandalism, robbery, and killing of Church personnel not only in the diocese but also in any part of South Sudan.
The Church entity called upon both the National and State Governments to safeguard the rule of law and to adhere to national and international principles of human rights. The Catholic Church and other religious or other faith institutions are initiating services to improve lives spiritually and to uphold human dignity amidst the misery the country is going through.
The statement urged the State government to provide security and protection to the Church, her properties and personnel, and ensure that all the properties were stolen both in Mupoi Parish and Solidarity Community of Riimenze and other interfaith properties are recovered, and the perpetrators apprehended and charged by law.
The Statement, however, called on the attackers to refrain from further attacks on faith-based institutions throughout the State.
