Celebration of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities in Ezo County
On Friday, December 3, 2021, Star Trust Organization in Partnership with other Humanitarian Agencies in Ezo County coordinated the celebration of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities under the theme “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities toward an inclusive, accessible and sustainable post-COVID-19 world.”
The occasion was graced by the presence of the State Minister of Gender, Child and Social Welfare of Western Equatoria State Hon. Anigunde Cecilia Bii. During the celebrations, STO Programme Coordinator Nyoko Victor thanked the Ezo county leadership under the Hon commissioner for supporting STO programs and activities in the county.
He highlighted the key projects STO is implementing in the County notably the Smallholder Agriculture Market Support (SAMS) project funded by World Food Programme (WFP), The Youth Economic Empowerment Project (YEEP) funded by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Local Response Pool Fund (LRPF) Rapid Emergency Response (RER) project which is supporting 120 persons living with disability in Ezo central Payam.
The STO PC also seized the occasion to allow other humanitarian agencies working in Ezo county to give a brief highlight of their activities in the county. He concluded by introducing the STO team implementing the LRPF-RER project in Ezo county.
The Executive Director of Ezo county while delivering his speech thanked all the humanitarian partners who are offering services to the IDPs and host community members in the county. He assured them of the support of the county authorities. He urged the humanitarian partners to work hand in hand with the County RRC to reach other payams of the county.
While delivering her speech, the State Minister for Gender, Child and Social Welfare, Hon. Anigunde Cecilia applauded all the organizations operating in Ezo County for their support to the most vulnerable persons in the county. The minister urged the community members of Ezo county to continue supporting the IDPs who have come seeking refuge and peace in the county and more so the persons living with disabilities. The ministry donated assorted items to the persons living with disabilities and assured them of forwarding their plight to other stakeholders to give them further assistance. The minister urged parents to take good care of their children and send them to school. On the other hand, she urged the county authorities to resume adult learning to the elderly in the county. In her concluding remarks, the minister urged all humanitarian organizations to collaborate with the government of WES in delivering services to the most vulnerable persons in the state.
The Minister's speech was followed by a group photo session with persons with disabilities and lunch The celebration was concluded by a football match in Ezo freedom square between the Ezo Girls Team and the Staff members of the various humanitarian organizations in the county. The Girl's team was awarded a trophy and some other prizes in appreciation of their organization and show of talent.
