Former Governor of Now Defunct Meridi State Hail Activities of the Catholic Church in Western Equatoria, Encourages Residents to Embrace Unity
The Former Governor of Now Defunct Meridi State who is currently the Deputy Commissioner of the Nation Revenue Authority in the Republic of South Sudan Hon. Africano Mande has applauded the activities of the Catholic Church in Western Equatoria State saying that the Church is doing a tremendous work.
Speaking during a reception held in his honor at the Curio of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio, Hon Africano Mande thanked the Church for being available to the people and helping them spiritually to find God. He applauded the social services the Church is doing in the area of peacebuilding and humanitarian assistance in times of crisis. At the same time, he underlined the importance of unity among various communities, faith groups, government, and the intellects saying that all these people need each other for grown and development of the state.
He said that unity is power and the fact that people are coming from different backgrounds should be a plus as it means different talents which are required for the various development initiatives.
“We are all created in the image of God and our uniqueness, our differences, our ethnicity should be our strength. We need to hold each other's hands in order to ensure growth and development in our region,” he expressed while encouraging the young people of Western Equatoria to hold on to issues that are important and that would help build their future, for instance, acquiring skills that would enable them to make a living.
During the same reception, a number of people spoke, both from the government and church and they all echoed the message of unity, forgiveness, and working together.
Meanwhile, Hon Africano Mande during a visit to Western Equatoria also paid a courtesy call to Assumption of our Lady Kindergarten and Primary Boarding School in Rimenze, one of the few strong boarding schools in the diocese.
During the visit, he expressed that education is key towards building the future of South Sudan. “Quality education means quality work, quality progress, and quality life,” He expressed as he thanked the brothers of Christian Instruction from Uganda who is running and managing the school.
Established three years ago in 2018, the institution has been affected by the challenges of Covid-19 which are facing the world over, South Sudan included; however, the brothers are doing the best they can to ensure that they provide the best.
