On Thursday 19th of January 2023, the Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State Hon Dr. Kennedy Gaaniko Baime urged the board members of Yambio Science Health Institute to work in cooperation with the state ministry of health for the better future of students studying at the institute.
Speaking during the meeting with the staff of the ministry and board members of Yambio Science Health Institute in his office, the deputy governor who doubles as state chairman of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) political party, Dr. Kennedy lamented that it’s very important for the two bodies to work according to their constitutions, adding that the two should build co-operation and understanding for the benefit of the institute and state as well.
Meanwhile the state minister of health in the state Hon James Abdulai thanks the office of the deputy governor for identifying the problem and calling them to sit down and solve it.
Minister James further added, “the reasons that brought the problem between the two started in July last year, when his Ministry received several complaints from the institute about the principal collecting illegal fees from the students, there was no proper accountability and transparency which lead to the ministerial order relieving the principal and appoint the new one, which brought the problem between board members and the ministry.
For their part, the board members of Yambio Science Health Institute said, before their appointment, there was no proper system at the institute which lead to the rejection by the national government, but through the hard work of the board members, the institute is now accepted and that’s why it manages to conduct its first graduation last year in Yambio.
The effort to reach the previous principal of the Institute for his side of the story was not successful.
