Police Warns Disco Operators at Rhino Camp Refugees Settlement
Oduko said that the current situation in Uganda owing to COVID19 cannot allow people to stage discos in the country, an order which came from the president of the Republic of Uganda.
Ugandan police have warned disco operators of dire consequences if found operating at Rhino camp refugees’ settlement as such gatherings contravene the COVID-19 rules and puts residents at risks now that there is an increase in the rate of community infections.
Oduko Peter the assistant supervisor of police at Terego District Rhino Camp Refugees’ Settlement made this remarks during a visit to raise awareness among the refugees following numerous disco operations at the trading centres during the just ended festivities.
Oduko said that the current situation in Uganda owing to COVID19 cannot allow people to stage discos in the country, an order which came from the president of the Republic of Uganda.
“Because of the current situation, discos are not allowed in the country and the camps are not exempted,’’ he added.
Oduko said that people need to protect their lives by observing the COVID-19 rules stipulated by the Ministry of Health such as avoiding crowds, keeping social distance, wearing of face mask, and washing of hands among others. Disco are known to bring many people together and this can increase chances of the infection spreading due to the crowd.
He said that anyone caught staging disco will be arrested and their machines and instruments confiscated. The will therefore deal with the perpetrators accordingly.
He reminded the refugees to always abide by the law of the land in order to avoid any ugly incidences as the police will not spare any offenders based on their being refugees.
“As long as you are a refugee, you need to abide by the laws and regulations of the country that is hosting you, this is very important. The law applies to all people living in Uganda,’’ he explained.
