Journalists and media practitioners are advised to remain neutral in their work and refrain from siding with political parties in the current unity government in the Country. Speaking during the launch of a three-day training on investigative journalism, evidence reporting, and human rights to journalists drawn from different media houses in Western Equatoria, the Director General of the State Ministry of information Mr. Zingbondo Emmanuel Jeremiah, called on journalists and media practitioners to remain neutral and work within the scope of their ethics.
South Sudan is ruled by multi political parties that signed the 2018 peace agreement ending the over five-year war in the Country. In August this year, the peace parties in the unity government extended the period of the transitional government for another two years, to enable the implementation of key provisions of the peace agreement and to pave for the conduct of the election come 2025.
Mr. Zingbondo said, “siding with political parties cannot allow journalists to perform their duty professionally and thus compromise their work.”
He called on journalists in the State to prepare for the coverage of South Sudan’s anticipated 2025 elections.
In August this year, the peace parties in the unity government agreed to extend the period of the transitional government for two years in order to give way for the implementation of key provisions in the 2018 peace agreement.
