The Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CODEP) on Friday 24th, 2023, launched its coordination office in the Eastern Deanery at our Lady Fatima Parish in Maridi County.

The coordination office is aimed to be an eye of CODEP in the area by writing proposals for the social needs of the community and Parish on the ground as one way to complement government efforts.

Maridi County authority, civil society, members of the community, and the parishioners who gathered to witness the launching of the office, warmly welcomed the presence of the CODEP office in the area, citing this will add to the number of the existing CSOs and CBOs in Maridi to work for better service delivery to the population there.

Speaking at the launch, Maridi county deputy executive director Kamaldin Bashir Juma, lauded CDTY for its wise decision to create a developmental institution and extend its branch in Maridi County, assuring that the county authority will work with the branch of the Church organization to achieve the same goal of service delivery.

Mr. Bashir Juma acknowledged the services that are rendered by indigenous organizations compared to an international organization. He said indigenous organizations focus on real challenges facing their community.

On the other hand, the Parish priest for our Lady of Fatima, Rev. Fr. Dominic Sasa said the establishment of CODEP’s coordination office is to deal with the social wing of the Diocese.

“The launching of the office today is to deal with the social wing that is to reach also the life, the humanitarian assistance for human being”.

Mr. Nganisa David Ariyo the deputy director for CODEP said the plan is to launch CODEP’s coordination offices in all the six deaneries under the Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio.

Mr. David Ariyo added the main reason for establishing the coordination offices in the deaneries is to reach the grass root. “The Bishop thought it wise that we cannot remain with CODEP only in Yambio, so we have to take CODEP to the people on the ground and that is exactly what we are doing now. This first coordination office was opened in Tambura and this is the second, Mr. Ariyo stated.

Mr. Alex Mambo was appointed CODEP’s coordinator in the newly established coordinating office at our Lady of Fatima Parish of Maridi County.
