Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio Staff Trained on Resources mobilization, Localized Strategies and Empowerment of Local Partnership

The Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio has embarked on activities to enhance its resource mobilization strategies using localized strategies and empowerment of local partners. This is geared towards improving local resource mobilization in the face of diminishing support from abroad. A two-day training to managers and staff of the diocese was therefore conducted to that effect. The training was conducted by a consultant from War Child Organization, Mr. Richard Bob Anyama.

Following the needs assessment conducted last year, the

Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio through her social wing CODEP agreed to partner with War Child Organization to offer support to war widows, orphans, and the most affected war communities with special focuses on children and women.

Anyama, the facilitator of the two-days training appealed to South Sudan Government and other stakeholders to come to the Aid of women who lost their husbands as well as orphaned children who lack parental care and guidance in Western Equatoria State.

Anyama that the training Financial Management and Resources Mobilization will enable the diocese to first identify resources locally before reaching to other partners at the national level in Juba.

Elia Charles, a social worker at the Diocese’s Department of Women and Family expressed joy that Mr. Anyama visited their department where orphans and war widows are currently engaged in activities such as counseling, awareness on Covid 19, and awareness on child protection.

Elia mentioned that among the children who come to their department for support are former child soldiers who were recruited into armed forces ranks during the recent war that started in 2013 and has since troubled the whole of South Sudan. He stated that the majority of young girls seeking help from their department are child mothers who are in greed need of humanitarian support.

Elias who was a participant during the two-day training is positive that the training is going to enable them at the Department of Women and Family to mobilize resources locally to support the former child soldiers and child mothers.

Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CODEP), the Social arm of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio was initiated a few years back by the Catholic Bishop of Tombura-Yambio, Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala, to respond to the humanitarian needs of persons affected by consecutive decades of civil wars in Sudan and South Sudan.

Ngbanisa David, the Deputy Director of the CODEP appreciated the War Child Organization for offering training to the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio member staff on financial management and resources mobilization, an initiative that he termed as timely. He urged the War Child Organization to continue collaborating with the diocese and offer such resourceful training in other different areas as well.
