The Vicar General of the Catholic Diocese of Tambura-Yambio (CDTY) Fr. Thomas Bagbiowia on Wednesday 28th January 2024 at the State transitional legislative assembly, called on the members of the Western Equatoria State Transitional Assembly not to use the months of recess just for leisure and running personal affairs.
“I am only advising you please, when you go for recess, it’s not a holiday to be somewhere. You have to be with people to identify their needs, to talk to them, to stay with them, and to love them so that when return from recess you will have reports to present, but a times you only go for recess for your private affairs, because sometimes we see that when there is recess like this people travel to foreign countries, what is this?” Fr. Bagbiowia questioned”.
Rev. Fr. Thomas reminded the state parliamentarians that it’s their obligation during the recess to meet with the people in their constituencies, document the challenges they face, and later present them in the August house.
He added that the presence of the lawmakers in their constituencies during this period of recess signifies their love for the people in those villages.
The Western Equatoria State members of parliament will take three months for recess to meet with people in their geographical areas to inquire challenges they face. The MPs are expected to resume sittings in May.
