“Small Christian Communities is a way of Sharing the Word of God”

Small Christian Community (SCC) is a group of people of one faith (or who believe and go to one church) Meeting together in other communities and share the word of God, help each other, eat together, carry on the church responsibilities together and love one another, Fr. Domnic Sasa the priest in charge of Our Lady Fatima Parish Maridi explains.

Fr. Sasa narrated that since they started the SCC movement in Our Lady Fatima Parish last year, they have created 16 SCC. Each SCC come together once  a week to share the word of God among themselves, discuss how they can handle the challenges in their communities and how they can support their Church.

On 13th October 2022, St Mary SCC came together to share the word of God and Fr. Sasa reminded them of the importance of journeying together as members of one Church citing the way the apostles lived tother after Jesus Christ left them.

“After Jesus left them, the apostles were living in one community, they were able to share the word of God, to pray together and even to consider their property as for all, Fr. Domnic continued, for us SCC helps us in our neighborhood, we have to consider our neighbors in the life of love of one another as Jesus said love your neighbor as you love yourself.”

He further encouraged the members of St. Mary SCC to help those who are in need among themselves especially the sick.

In a message shared through WhatsApp Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala acknowledged the good work that Fr. Sasa has done, “Fr. this is very promising, we are the ones to look out for the sheep, this is the way to go”, Bishop said. Other members congratulated Fr. For the great pastoral work he is doing.

SCC is the brain child of the Bishops of AMECEA. The 1979 AMECEA Plenary Meeting said: “Small Christian Communities are very instrumental in bringing the Gospel down to the lives of the people. They are effective way of making people feel that they are fully part of the church’s evangelizing work”. The lay faithful through the Small Christian Communities have a very effective role in the whole process of evangelization. They can very well build up the believers into a community of faith and love. Thus, the Small Christian Communities are means and occasion to proclaim the Gospel in a concrete manner and share God’s love in an effective way.

Hence, all church members from the Small Christian Communities to the bishops are active members of the Church and have some contribution to make. And experience show that the activities of the Small Christian Communities have had a profound impact on both society and the church.
