Hundreds of parishioners from the Catholic Diocese of Tombura Yambio (CDTY) are preparing to travel to Juba for the highly anticipated National Eucharistic Congress, set to take place this week. The faithful, eager to participate in this significant spiritual event, are set to embark on the journey to the nation’s capital, where the gathering will bring together Catholics across South Sudan for prayer, reflection, and fellowship.
CDTY, which encompasses the southwestern part of the country, has long been an area of strong Catholic faith, with vibrant parish communities and numerous religious events throughout the year. For many, attending the National Eucharistic Congress is a rare opportunity to deepen their faith and engage with other believers from across South Sudan.
The Diocese has organized transport for the hundreds of participants, who will travel by bus to Juba in groups over the next few days. Preparations are underway to ensure a smooth journey, with church officials coordinating logistics and providing spiritual guidance to participants ahead of the event. Many of the parishioners have been preparing for the congress with prayer and reflection, focusing on the themes of Eucharistic devotion and the importance of community within the Catholic Church.
The National Eucharistic Congress, a central event in the Catholic Church's liturgical calendar, will feature a series of Masses, prayers, and workshops focused on the central role of the Eucharist in the life of the Church. The event will also serve as a platform for discussions on social justice, peace, and reconciliation, themes that are particularly relevant in South Sudan, which has endured years of conflict.
The congress is expected to attract thousands of participants from across the country, as well as dignitaries from the Vatican and the local religious community
