Bishop Donate Bicycles to School Girls at St. Joseph Parish Saura to Facilitate their Transport to and from School
In a bit to promote and encourage girl-child education, Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala through the support of his friends and partners donated bicycles to school girls at St. Joseph Parish Saura to assist them as means of transport.
Speaking to Rurugene Online News, Bishop Hiiboro expressed that he is very passionate about girl-child education, the reason why he is determined to do what he can to support them.
He feels that girl-child education is threatened by many factors, some social, some psychological. According to Bishop Hiiboro, South Sudan is a country that is in its initial stages of development, as such a lot of facilities are yet to be built. For instance, there are just a few schools in many places and these are situated far away from many villages. Owing to this the majority of children have to cover long distances before reaching their learning institutions. The distance covered to and from school has in most cases discouraged many pupils from going to school. Some of them often end up giving up on learning altogether, the majority of who are girls.
It is against this background that Bishop Hiiboro sought to intervene by providing means of transport in form of bicycles to girls who hail from one of the remote parishes in Tombura-Yambio Diocese, St. Joseph Parish Saura.
“The initiative has been very much welcomed by the community and the girls who received the bicycles feel really motivated. Although it was not possible to provide all the girls in the area with bicycles, the gesture is an indication to the girl-child that they matter and that someone cares about them and wishes to support them in any way so that they can go to school,” Bishop Hiiboro explained.
He further expressed that this is an initiative he intends to continue within the future in order to ensure that as many school-going girls as possible are supported with means of transport to facilitate their journey to and back from school.
“I want to ensure that girls do not get discouraged from going to school due to such problems as long-distance or school fees or other requirements, which their parents may not be in a position to provide. I will do my best to support wherever I can,” he promised as he called upon the entire community and the diocese at large to do what they can to support girl child education.
