Bishop Hiiboro Expresses Concern Over the Partial Abruptly Lockdown on social Gathering Due to Covid-19
The Catholic Bishop of Tombura-Yambio Diocese, Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala has expressed concern over the partial lock-down on social gathering by the National Government in Juba as a preventive measure against the spread of Coronavirus.
Terming the situation “abruptly’’, Bishop Hiiboro said that the government should have notified the religious leaders in the country so that they make necessary adjustments with regards to worship schedules accordingly.
“What shall the church communicate now to the Christians on what will happen next Sunday?” the Bishop posed adding that God is the only healer, and people often time find consolation in the places of worship. Additionally, the religious leaders are in total agreement with the government with regards to taking necessary measures to prevent the spread of the deadly virus; however, it would have been proper to let the religious leaders know in advance about the partial lockdown so that they would advise their congregants accordingly.
“As Church we are going to talk as religious leaders to find out what can possibly be done during this partial lockdown and what will be applicable by the church and Christians community in our diocese,” Bishop Hiiboro said adding that during this testing times of Covid-19, people should remain prayerful and truthful in faith so that God the Almighty may rescue his people from the pandemic.
Bishop Eduardo emphasized the fact that Corona Virus is real and it kills people therefore everyone should take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus. Practices such as wearing face masks in public places, keep social distance, washing hands regularly with soap and clean water and avoiding shaking of hands among should be strictly adhered to.
On Wednesday February 3, 2021, the office of the Vice President of Service Cluster, Husein Abdebagi Akol who doubles as the Chairman of the National taskforce on Corona Virus issued partial lockdown with bans on all social gathering including all sporting events, religious events such as Sunday worships, Salat Al Juma Mosque prayer, funerals and wedding ceremonies. Also political events are banned.
The vice president also ordered the closure of all pre-schools, schools, Universities and other learning institutions with the except of classes scheduled for national examinations. These will be permitted to go on but under strict adherence to the protective measures stipulated by the ministry of health.
