War is not a solution to problems,” Children from Tombura Cry out to fighters
Children from Kiniya, in Tambura County of Western Equatoria State, have expressed that the the conflict which has been going on in Tombura County for some months now and has resulted in the deaths of innocent people is not a solution to the many problems South Sudan is currently facing.
The children have therefore asked the revitalized government to come to the rescue of the many innocent civilians who are victims of the violence.
“The government should intervene by investigating the matter and establishing the root causes of this conflict in Tambura County so that the issues can be resolved. Otherwise, if things are left like this then it is us, children whose future lives are being interfered with because we are currently missing out on school,” Justin Saverio one of the children from Kiniya expressed.
Saverio described the worrying situation at Kiniya as a place where armed groups have made it a habit of just appearing out of nowhere and burn houses, loot, cut people with machetes, and seriously wounding them, and to some extend kill innocent people.
Another child, Natale Morris, also expressed the pain of not being able to attend the school like other South Sudanese children elsewhere. “It is a pity that we have not been able to attend school as the conflict broke a few months ago, if nothing is done to resolve the situation, we will have lost a lot at the end of the year,” he said as he called on authorities concerned with security issues in the country to do something swiftly.
Another child, Batista Nungate, urged all people who are involved in this conflict to stop. He said that God is watching what the perpetrators of the violence are doing and he will certainly avenge those who are currently ambushing and killing innocent civilians.
“We really need peace; the government should find a way to bring these conflicting groups together and mediate among them so that peace agreement can be reached for the sake of our country,” he said adding that it is a pity to witness how people have turned against each other and are not willing to relent for the sake of humanity or respect for life.
