St. John Paul II institute of Philosophy at St. Bakitha Paris under the Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio has reopened on 28th of May for the 2022 academic year. The Philosophical Seminary is now operational to produce Catholic Priests to continue serving Catholic faithful.

Addressing the major seminarians at the reopening of the institute, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio, His Lordship Barani Edwardo Hiiboro Kussala, says the philosophicum seminary aims to prepare people who are to be messengers of Christ, and to carry Christ in their lives.

“It’s an institution to train, mold, and assist the major Seminarians to become future priests”. Hiiboro stated

During the event Bishop Hiiboro announced the new name of the Seminary changed from St. John Paul II Philosophicum Seminary to St. John Paul II institute of Philosophy.

Philosophy is the study of fundamental nature of knowledge reality and existence especially considered as an academic discipline. Philosophy can also be described as an activity people undertake when they seek to understand fundamental truth about themselves, the world in which they live and their relationships to the world and to each other.

On the other hand in a massage shared with the Editor of Rurugene Newsletter, Bishop Hiiboro explained that this year 3rd of June the CDTY will ordain seven seminarians to priesthood marking a total of 17 seminarians ordained as the products of St. John Paul II Institute of Philosophy since its formation in 2010 – 2011.

In his message he said that the seminary admitted seminarians from other dioceses like Malakal and Rumbek, “already the seminary do not only admit students from CDTY but it had open doors from other dioceses of Malakal and Rumbek and these students were able to study with the students of CDTY”.

“The number of seminarians expected is 96 but at the moment we have received over 75 seminarians, we still expect to receive the remaining to have 96 major seminarians doing Philosophy” Bishop Kussala added.

According to Bishop Hiiboro, St. John Paul II Institute of Philosophy is affiliated to Consolata Institute of Philosophy in Nairobi – Kenya, therefore after two years of philosophy in Yambio the seminarians will join Consolata Institute of Philosophy for one year in order to complete their three years of Philosophy and then sit for Baccalaureate exams from Ubarniana University in Rome.

Finally the Local Ordinary of the diocese was grateful to God, together with the consultants, the clergy, religious and all the faithful for supporting this initiative of opening the Seminary.
