By Baraka John
Rev, Father Anthony Gaka one of the long-serving priests in the Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio celebrated his fifty years of golden jubilee into the priesthood.
He has served in numerous positions in the Diocese including Vicar General.
Fr. Gaka was born in 1945 and ordained into Deaconate on the 8th of June 1973, after completing his Philosophy and theology courses.
A year later he was ordained into the priesthood. After his ordination he was appointed to Mopoi as a pioneer rector of the newly opened Seminary in 1974 and later shifted with the Seminarians to Rii- Menze when the late Bishop Gasi opened a minor Seminary in the area.
In 1982 Father Gaka was transferred to Mopoi as a Parish priest, thereafter, in 1990 he took refuge in Mboki of Central Africa Republic as a result of a civil war between the then Southern Sudanese and the Northerners. In 1996 Gaka was appointed Vicar general at the Catholic Diocese of Tambura Yambio after he returned from the refugee camp. He also served as a Curate at Catholic Parish Tambura in the same year.
Later in 2000, he was appointed Parish Priest at Nakindo Sene Catholic Parish Nzara. In 2009 he went for his Sabbatical in Rome-Italy.
Sparking at the Holy Eucharist marking the golden jubilee at Nakido Sene Parish Nzara on Thursday, His lordship Barani Edwardo Hiiboro Kussala described Fr. Anthony Gaka as a humble and committed priest in the course of his 50 years of service.
“When we are talking of 50 years anniversary, we need to bear in mind that every person was sent for a special purpose, and every one of us was mandated to fulfill something unique, celebrating more years in service, is another bell ringing informing you and me that our services depend on our creator for a purpose”. Hiiboro said.
His Lordship Hiiboro urged Christians to take the example of Fr Anthony Gaka who lived a life of humbleness in the course of his service.
