By Joseph Ernesto

As the Catholic Church celebrates Pentecost Sunday worldwide yesterday, hundreds of the Catholic charismatic movement gathered at St. Mary Mother of God to undergo 3 days of Biblical teaching as to commit and be empowered by the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost is always celebrated after the Ascension and is recognized as the birthday of the Catholic Church.

The gathering was empowered by the biblical teachings, inviting the Holy Spirit through intercession, Holy Rosary, praising, and worshiping among others.

During the Eucharistic celebration on the Pentecostal Sunday 28th May 2023, hundreds of the commissioned members of the Catholic Charismatic Movement renewed the commitment to serve others as a continuation of Jesus’ mission.

Presiding on Pentecostal Sunday celebration, his Lordship Barani Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala reiterated the multitude to observe the three gifts of the Holy Spirit of which he mentioned Fear of God should daily be practiced in their lives adding that the daily lives of faithful should be invaded of truth for oneself and others as the truth sets everyone free.

Hiiboro stressed on forgiveness as the third gift of the Holy Spirit urging that it is a means to Holiness.

The entire environment was red, the religious Colour for Pentecostal Sunday as it marks the sign of the Holy Spirit that descended on the apostles as tugs of fire. Members of the catholic charisma dressed in white and red T-shirts with black trousers or skirts.

Bishop Kussala urged the leaders of South Sudan to embrace forgiveness by allowing Christ in their midst in order to grow in unity for everlasting peace in the country.

He added that the important aspect of forgiveness is freedom of the past “Forgiveness means reconciliation, and “forgiving ourselves and others is like watering parched, forgiveness softens and renews your spirit and brings back to life” he explained.

He calls on all South Sudanese to distance themselves from hatred, hate speech, and inciting violence rather than resolve and let go of feelings of hatred.
