South Sudan Caritas and CODEP Join Forces for Child Safeguarding Training

In upholding and recognizing the dignity and rights of all children, the Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CODEP) in commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of children through South Sudan Caritas organized a one-day training for its staff on child safeguarding. CODEP exists to promote socio-economic development and peace under the auspices of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio.
Addressing over 40 participants, the director of South Sudan Caritas provided comprehensive insights into the safeguarding policy applicable to Catholic institutions, including the protection of children and vulnerable persons.
At the awarding ceremony, Bishop Edwardo Hiiboro underscored the initiative to acquaint the staff with this crucial knowledge that values humanity at duty stations.
“You have received certificates for child safeguarding or anybody who is vulnerable, it is not a certificate, but the certificate is yourselves, the way you care for every human being, the wellbeing of every person out there, and especially those who cannot support themselves. So, we should be touched when you see any child anywhere, handle that child well because you were once handled well”, Hiiboro said.
The August one-day training session is geared towards enhancing organizational operations and safeguarding practices for CODEP staff and managers.
The training was designed to ensure that CODEP aligns with the Catholic Church's guidelines for protecting individuals and maintaining ethical standards.
